Pan-Orthodox Pilgrimage to the Shrine and Holy Well of St. Winifride
A principal event in the Church Calendar is the annual pan-Orthodox Pilgrimage to Holywell which is held on the first Saturday in October. Here is to be found the holy well of Saint Winifride and is the sole surviving ancient place of pilgrimage in Britain. While many other such ancient sites have had their tradition of pilgrimage restored, Saint Winifride’s Well is the only place where pilgrimage never ceased in the period following the Reformation.
The parish also enjoys a Sunday afternoon (at the beginning of August) at the Well of Saint Plegmund who lived as a hermit in the marshes north of Chester.
