A talk by Theo Andreou with the title “Temple of God, an unbroken vision of the Virgin Mary”
The Parish of St Barbara has the pleasure to host a talk by Theo Andreou with the title “Temple of God, an unbroken vision of the Virgin Mary” on Wednesday 10th of June at 7 pm at the church of St Barbara.
Since the earliest centuries of Christianity, Christians have been captivated by the Virgin Mary, treating her with great respect and honour. But what was the theological basis of this veneration, and how did it relate to the identity of her Son, Jesus Christ, the Word of God incarnate? If you would like to know more about Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, please join us. Theo will expand on these questions and more.
Information about the speaker: Theo Andreou was born in Staffordshire in 2000 to an English mother and a Cypriot father. During his school and college years, he developed a keen interest for religious and philosophical discourse. In 2018, he began his BA in Philosophy and Theology at Durham University, as a member of St John’s College. Once completed, he then obtained an MA in Christian Theology from Durham, this time whilst staying in Ustinov College. During his MA, Theo further specialised in Patristic and Orthodox theology. In particular, he focussed on St John Chrysostom’s conception of the ideal priesthood, early exegeses of the Transfiguration, the cosmic Christological vision of St Maximus the Confessor, and the theology of the icon in Vladimir Lossky. His dissertation concentrated on demonstrating the existence of a Marian cult prior to the Council of Ephesus in 431. He has also written an encyclopaedic entry on the Mother of God in the Eastern Orthodox Tradition for the University of St Andrews. Additionally, Theo has a deep fascination for the doctrinal debates that occurred throughout Church history; especially those pertaining to Christology. Theo is also involved in teaching at both his parish Sunday school in Shrewsbury, the Varangian Guard, and at the annual Camp St Sophrony. His book “Temple of God” was recently published and is available on Amazon via this link
